Bayou Region Nonprofits Raise Over $64,000 from GiveBayou

(Houma) On Tuesday, May 1, Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish residents marked GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region by generously supporting 55 local nonprofit organizations with online gifts.

Preliminary results indicate that, in total, the local organizations received $64,536 in donations as part of the 24-hour online giving event hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

A total of $20,130 in gifts was made to 28 participating Lafourche nonprofits, and participating Terrebonne nonprofits received a total of $44,406 in online gifts through GiveNOLA.org from midnight to midnight on Tuesday, May 1.

Throughout the New Orleans metro area, 765 participating organizations raised an estimated $5.5 million from 48,795 donations during the 5th annual GiveNOLA Day.

Here in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes, the Bayou Community Foundation participated in GiveNOLA Day and also coordinated a “Give Bayou” campaign to promote all of the Bayou Region nonprofits that were participating in the event and encourage local residents to make online donations on May 1.

“It is so exciting to see our local communities come together as one to support the work of our amazing nonprofits for ‘Give Bayou.’  Our local residents truly opened their hearts and their wallets on this special giving day, and we are grateful for their generosity,” says Bayou Community Foundation coordinator Jennifer Armand.

“We often say that giving makes great things happen, and I know that with this $65,000 in gifts, our donors and local nonprofits will make a huge impact on our community, address some of our biggest needs, and strengthen our entire region,” Armand said.

The Bayou Community Foundation received $6,500 in donations on May 1, and all of these gifts will fund grants to local nonprofits this summer as part of BCF’s annual competitive grants program.

In addition to online donations, three Bayou Region nonprofits also won prizes on GiveNOLA Day.  Bayou Grace Community Services, Lafourche Education Foundation and Communities that Care of Lockport each were selected randomly throughout the day to receive $1,000 “Rock Around the Clock” cash prizes.
