When Hurricane Ida came ashore on Grand Isle, Louisiana, on August 29, 2021, she battered this seven-mile-long inhabited barrier island south of Lafourche Parish with winds topping 200 mph for three hours.

Over 1,400 homes, businesses and community buildings were destroyed or damaged, causing an estimated loss of $200 million. With over 22% of the island’s 1,428 residents living in poverty and more than 21% elderly, far too many who lost everything in the storm have no means to rebuild on their own.

Recognizing this extreme need for housing repair and new construction, Bayou Community Foundation is working to raise $2 million to help the neediest residents of Grand Isle rebuild their homes and their lives, and ultimately, restore this precious and often overlooked coastal community.

Your gift to Bayou Community Foundation for Rebuild Grand Isle will fund construction materials, supplies, tools and services to repair and build homes for the neediest Grand Isle residents, including the elderly and handicapped.

Your charitable contribution will rebuild homes for Grand Isle families who need it the most, and in the process, rebuild Grand Isle’s economy, infrastructure and resiliency. We are also grateful to our partners Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), and Town of Grand Isle, who are coordinating and delivering the repair and rebuild work on the island.

Thank you for your gift to Rebuild Grand Isle!

1% of your gift will be reserved to support administration of the home repair and rebuilding program
